Earthquake | Work until 9pm
(1) Earthquake in LA. I still miss LA and read news about LA. So I called up my brother and also my ex-colleague in LA. They are all fine. Thank God.
(2) Recently I have been working until like 8pm or 9pm. I'm very tired. Tomorrow I'm trying to leave at 5:30pm sharp, no matter what! I don't think the Office couldn't run without me staying late!

sometimes i think why people need to OT for such a long hour, sometimes my friends in HK OT until 4am
I wonder whether it is a sub-culture in HK to have this kind of OT life, or it is officially scheduled...
OR, the "OT life" is merely an psychological standard, skepticism, and self-comforter...
@Kevaries - @Jan_Nices - thanks for asking.
There is an OT culture in Hong Kong -- people has got nothing to do but just stay at office to browse internet; also there are people who likes to MSN and listen to music at all times and work slowly, resulting to OT.
But I myself is not the type above.
The reason why people genuinely needs to OT can be judged by their job type: (1) routine-based, (2) project-based, (3) combination of both.
(1) Routine-based jobs will be like a general clerk, general admin staff, janitors, doctors in private clinic. Their work are of routine nature, so they can get off work at a scheduled time (e.g. 5:30pm for clerks) without much delay.
(2) Project-based jobs will be like architects, some admin staff, some lawyer, etc. Tasks are come in ad-hoc basis and therefore the workload cannot be predicted. Workload might not come in seasonal-basis. This type of jobs tend to makes you OT.
(3) Combination of the above.
I'm in type (3). My ad hoc projects outweight my routine works. If there's no projects at all, I will be able to get off at 5:30pm.
don't know ur HK time, do u gome home 5:30 sharp?
@peculiarc - my official time off is 5:30pm..but i usually had to work until 7:30pm...
