  • An unnecessary wake-up

    For every 2 months, I have to go to work on one Saturday morning (i.e. have to work for around 7 Saturdays per year in total).  Today is one of the assigned Saturday I had to work.  My clock alarm woke me up at 6:45am, but at the same time my mom broke into my room and said "there's Black Rain Alert and you don't have to go to work!  You can come out and watch the news on TV!"

    Then I double checked that the Black Rain was really on, so I went back to sleep.  But at 8:20am, my colleague called me and asked, "hey! so do we have to go to work or not? The Black Rain Alert is hoisted."  I told her, "just stay home....no work.....(yarned) you can check our Office's website and there's a guideline on bad weather..." She said, "sorry I didn't mean to wake you up...bla bla bla".  Yea.  Then I fall asleep again.

    Then in the afternoon Meow and I went to Mong Kok, hoping to find a good home phone for Meow.  Hers was broken.

    At night we went home and watched P.S. I Love You (2007).  Meow kept crying throughout the movie.  haha I didn't mean to show her the movie to make her cry.  I thought it was about a regular romantic film, but it turns out that it was so touching (to Meow).  I didn't cry at all, so I guess i'm cold-blood!

  • Song of the Week - Yvonne Elliman

    dorry, in te past few weeks I have brought you to the 70s' disco era.  This week I've got Yvonne Elliman's If I Can't Have You (1977), wrote by Bee Gees but was given to her to sing.  The song appeared in The Saturday Night Fever movie.

    Yvonne Elliman was soooo pretty.

    Click 'play' at the left panel of my main page to listen to the song.

  • Very empty!

    My supervisor (*) has resigned and will leave soon in July.

    My boss has resigned too and will leave in September.

    My another supervisor (between myself and *) will end her contract soon and she indicated that she doesn't want the contract to be renewed.

    Wordless, man!  Very sad.  When there's no boss, it's like you're an orphan.  You guys are on your own!

  • I watched this Saturday Night Fever (1977) because I know there are lots of Bee Gees' songs in it.  However, it turns out I can see so much of dancing than I expect.  This movie is commonly known as the first movie showing so much disco, dancing, and pop culture back in the 70s.  So good.

    Again, I was so intoxicated by Bee Gee's How Deep is Your Love, of which I put it as my "song of the week" on xanga last week.

    Here is the music video straight from the movie (music won't start until seconds 1:19):

    I know your eyes in the morning sun
    I feel you touch me in the pouring rain
    And the moment that you wander far from me
    I wanna feel you in my arms again

    And you come to me on a summer breeze
    Keep me warm in your love and then softly leave
    And its me you need to show

    Chorus:
    How deep is your love
    I really need to learn
    cause were living in a world of fools
    Breaking us down
    When they all should let us be
    We belong to you and me

    I believe in you
    You know the door to my very soul
    Youre the light in my deepest darkest hour
    Youre my saviour when I fall
    And you may not think
    I care for you
    When you know down inside
    That I really do
    And its me you need to show

    Chorus
    Repeat and fade

  • Watched this Meet the Fockers (2004) after the Meet the Parents (2000) I previously before.  There's a good excuse for the actors to curse when they say "fockers"...

  • Restrooms at workplace

    I think the restrooms at workplace (or at school, if you're in school) is one of the important elements to retain good employees.  I must admit that I like the toilet arrangements in my workplace, and here are the factors about the ideal toilet arrangements in a workplace:

    1. Restrooms should be located a bit away from the central office, such that people won't see you going into the restroom.
    2. Individual employees be given the restroom keys, instead of putting the all male/female keys in a central place to be shared with anyone who needs to go to the restroom.  Again, if keys are to be shared, then people would know when you're going to the restroom.
    3. There shall be NO policy governing the toileting schedule of employees.  Don't laugh! people working in Jockey Club does have a toileting schedule.  When Team A is answering customers' calls for bidding, Team B can go to rest room for 10 minutes, etc.  I'm gonna have kidney stone if I'm given such toileting schedule.
    4. An ideal restrooms, in light of cleanliness/health, shall be equipped with the followings:
      • Automated water faucet/tap;
      • Liquid-soap dispenser;
      • Unlimited supply of paper towels;
      • A Trash bin located near the door way, so people can open the door with the paper towel and then throw it into the trash bin.  You can't imagine how many people don't wash hands after toilet;
      • Toilet seats available;
      • Unlimited supply of toilet papers;
      • Sufficient toilet stalls/seats available according to the staffing position (e.g. there should 1 toilet stalls/seats for every 4 staff employed, according to gender distribution.  Some places may have more female employees than male employees);
      • A working ventilation so bad smells will go away properly; and
      • If the company is rich, buy toilet seat-covers.
      • A working flushing system that does not leave any residues after flushing.
    5. There shall be a contracted cleaner(s) who clean(s) the toilets at least 2 times a day, to be spread evenly in the morning and in the late afternoon.  The cleaner(s) shall clean the items at Paragraph 4 above.

    Please comment and let me know how many items in Paragraph 4 are available to you at your workplace!

  • CBC Iris

    Friday morning, Iris called me and asked for Meow's cell phone.  I was so rushed at work so I gave her the number and hang up.  Can't imagine Meow invited her to our fellowship at night!

    We'll capture Iris in the next few months and have her come to the fellowhip every Friday night!

  • Sector Funds: Mining

    Can't live any longer without investing.  stagflation is too severe.  I realized that I'm too old to have a second life to play with stocks.  I'll put aside my stocks (i.e. let it grow at the corner of my e-banking...) for now.

    I wanna buy funds now!  I saw Blackrock's World Mining Funds.  Peroformance/price: click here.

    Among other reasons, the manager (Evy Hambro) has a long tenure and good performance in particular in the past few years.

    Any advice/comments?

  • Boss' sudden visits to my room

    Sometimes my boss will suddenly show up and talk to me at my office room.  I shared this office room with my colleague.

    In the room, I'm the one who's closer to the door.  My colleague was seated behind me, and actually behind a vertical screen, so she normally won't be seen by people who walked outside the room.  Even my boss visits me in the room, she'll hide behind the screen and keep on doing her work.

    When my boss came to my room, however, I'll be like going to the war without a helmet and bulletproof.   In case of my boss calling me by phone, I can still have some time to prepare myself psychologically before I pick up the phone; and I can try to guess what the call is about.  (We use Cisco's IP phone, so the screen shows the caller's name.)

    My adrenaline level is elevated whenever my boss calls/visits me.

  • Gym at school (i.e. work)

    It's very nice to have a gym at the workplace.

    Three of us --- fellow colleagues --- decided to go to the gym at the school on every Tuesday after work, with effective from this week. So today we bought sport bags with clothes, shoes, towels, and miscellaneous things for shower.  At 5:30pm (i.e. the official end of business), we are still rushing to get things done.  We end up start working out at 6:30pm.  But it took us some time to change.  And male spent more time than female to change!

    After the work out, we decided to go to the McDonald's for dinner! So happy.

    Finish McDonald's at 9:30pm.  I returned home at 10:30pm.

    This is one of the longest day I stay at the work place, and it's fun to be with colleagues for such a long time!
